Issue #20 - Sick, Wet & Ready to Learn
Ok, you can stop biting your nails now. No need to call the police or check in with local hospitals. I’m fine. Sometimes life gets in the way and I have to send the newsletter out a little later than usual.
But hey, it’s still Wednesday here in Australia, which means it’s probably still Wednesday everywhere else too.
Yes, I checked Kiribati. It’s still Wednesday there as well.
Weekly Highlights

Passing of Artist Jackson "Butch" Guice

May the 4th events
The comic and collectibles world lit up over the weekend as May the 4th brought a wave of Star Wars-themed celebrations around the globe. From exclusive comic drops and toy releases to special events at local comic shops, fans gathered to honor the galaxy far, far away. For many, it wasn’t just about lightsabers and Sith Lords—it was a weekend where comics, community, and fandom collided.
Notes from the Creator
It’s been a massive week, and you probably don’t need me to tell you that. I ended up publishing twice, which I usually try to avoid, but with May the 4th, Free Comic Book Day, and the Australian elections all happening, it felt like the right call.
I’ve been sick most of the week, especially today. I can barely keep my eyes open, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t breathed properly through both nostrils in days. But I had a mission: drive into the city and stop by All Star Comics. I’m being dramatic—it’s not like I’ve never been there—but it had been a while.
Naturally, it was raining. It always rains when I decide to drive into the CBD. Still, no complaints. I came home with some awesome comics.
I also finally read something that’s been sitting on my list for way too long: Letters from a Hitman by Stevie Pens. I have no idea why I waited, so don’t make the same mistake. You can read my review here.
Letter from a Hitman #1 - Comic Review
It’s been a while, and reviewing comics is not too different from riding a bike. You still know how to do it, but the first ride back might be a little wobbly. So, I’m pacing myself.
I also decided it’s the right time for me to become an artist. Jokes aside, I got tired of writing “I know nothing about art” in the Art section of my reviews, so I started drawing. I’ve been reading about it, watching videos, and trying to learn.
What I’ve learned so far is that I can’t draw a straight line, I don’t understand basic shapes, and I’ll probably grow old before I can draw a decent potato. But I will be posting some of my learnings here so you can hit that unsubscribe button faster than you ever thought possible.
Thanks for reading this week’s newsletter!
