Ever since I started this newsletter (and honestly, even before that), I’ve been lucky enough to connect with people in the comics industry—either in person at my local comic shop or through creators reaching out for reviews and features.
You’ve probably heard me talk before about the lack of comic culture in Greece, and how I didn’t grow up surrounded by the medium the way others did. Still, despite the industry’s ups and downs, the majority of my experiences have been overwhelmingly positive.
Today, though, I read a post by
that stirred up a mix of emotions—frustration and inspiration all at once. Colleen is a powerhouse. I could read her stories, insights, and experiences all day. But what really hit me was how much of what she went through still mirrors what so many indie creators face today. There are countless creators out there juggling multiple jobs, pouring everything they have into their comics, and still being taken advantage of—financially, professionally, or just plain disrespected.
Things have improved, especially around communication. These days, most creators know who else is attending an event well in advance, and they can avoid certain gigs if there’s a conflict of interest. But being shuffled outside the back of a venue at the last minute because someone decided a coffee bar was more important than a comics table? That still happens. Way more often than you’d think.
Colleen “made it” in the end—and thank God she did, because she deserves every bit of recognition. But she had to walk through hell to get there. I just hope, as a community, we can build an industry where the next Colleen doesn’t have to sleep in a piss-stained room rented by a maybe-predator just to get her shot.

More of my stuff
I haven’t had the chance to read almost anything this week. I mean I did read a few things, but haven’t really had the time to review anything properly since Letters from a Hitman.
I decided to go through the Silver Age comics in my garage and re-sleeve and catalogue everything properly. (I am terrible at that) That and tackling the fact that my girls (dad of twins) will consider it a game of hide and seek every time I try to spend more than 3 minutes in this room has made it a massive undertaking but I am almost done.
That and also the fact that I started sketching as I for no reason announced last time, thanks to getting inspired by
. Now I know for a fact that I can’t even draw the basic shapes. But give me some time. I am sure I can do something with myself in a few months.
